Breastfeeding Class
Lee Memorial Healthcare is hosting a breastfeeding class, recommended for women who are about a month before their due date!
This 2-hour class, taught by board-certified lactation consultants, is designed to help you feel confident and prepared for your breastfeeding journey. You’ll gain insights into what to expect in the first few weeks after your baby is born and learn practical skills to ensure breastfeeding success.
What the class covers:
- Breastfeeding fundamentals: Learn about milk production, proper latching techniques, and breastfeeding positions.
- What to expect in the first weeks: Understand the natural feeding patterns of newborns, including cluster feeding, feeding frequency, and recognizing hunger cues.
- Common challenges: Tips for overcoming potential issues such as nipple pain, engorgement, or low milk supply.
- Pumping basics: Introduction to pumping, storing breast milk, and when to consider introducing a bottle.
- Partner support: Discuss ways your partner or support person can assist during breastfeeding.
- Nutrition for nursing mothers: Learn what foods and fluids are essential to keep you and your baby healthy.
- Signs of a good latch: Recognize the difference between a good and poor latch to ensure baby is feeding effectively.
- Q&A session: 15 extra minutes to ask any questions and get personalized advice from the lactation consultant.
Classes are held once per month, on Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 4-6 PM, followed by a Q&A.
