Learn Safe Driving with the Teen Driving Challenge!
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Florida Sheriff’s Association, is excited to offer the Teen Driver Challenge for young drivers in Central Florida.
Why This is Important
- Car crashes are one of the leading causes of injury for teens.
- Learning defensive driving skills helps reduce the risk of accidents.
- Safe driving habits build confidence and save lives.
What You’ll Learn
This 8-hour course combines classroom lessons and hands-on driving exercises to teach:
- Teen crash facts and safe driving habits.
- Vehicle dynamics and how to handle emergencies.
- Skills like braking, cornering, skid recovery, and more.
Who Can Join
- Teens aged 15-19 with a Learner’s Permit or Florida Driver’s License for at least 6 months.
- Participants must provide their own vehicle.
Driving Practice Includes
- Evasive maneuvers and skid recovery.
- Forward and reverse serpentine driving.
- Emergency braking and off-road recovery.
How to Register
- Submissions open 45 days before the first class and close 25 days before the session starts.
- Each class has 12 spots, and acceptance is not automatic.
- Accepted students must complete a registration packet, including forms, insurance, and a refundable $50 deposit.
